Designer's Notes

This home was designed to feel introspective and cocooned. The clients requested something modern with character, leaning toward a darker palette and curved forms that could lend softness to an otherwise structured plan. We took that vision and shaped a home that is visually striking yet deeply calming. We worked within a monochrome base of slate, graphite, and dark walnut, using light tactically to carve space and mood. Wall cladding, joinery, and even the ceiling profiles follow clean architectural lines, softened by radius corners and arched thresholds. This contrast creates a visual rhythm that is dynamic but controlled. Lighting was fully integrated into the design. Linear LED strips behind headboards, shelves, and cove panels bring warmth into the deep tones, balancing shadows with a soft ambient glow. Each bedroom was treated like a private retreat, with custom carpentry and built-in side tables that enhance both symmetry and functionality. One of the key moments is the dining space, anchored by a dramatic arch that frames the room and adds sculptural impact. It blends seamlessly with the entertainment wall, which uses recessed niches to display objects and create focal points without clutter. This is a home that feels cinematic in tone, yet designed for everyday living.
“We knew we wanted a home that felt different. Something darker, moodier, but still comfortable and timeless. The team brought that to life better than we imagined. The arch in the dining room and the lighting in the bedrooms are our favourite details. The whole space feels layered and intentional, not just nice to look at but really livable. Even though the colours are dark, the space never feels heavy. It’s soothing, stylish, and very us.”
