Designer's Notes

This home was designed with a clear intention to contrast. We embraced a pairing of warm wood tones and graphite surfaces, using them to draw out clean structure while keeping the overall palette grounded and approachable. Vertical fluting adds rhythm to the walls, creating visual movement even in smaller spaces. Storage is discreetly integrated, with custom joinery that fits flush and makes the most of every inch. Black accents — from the sink to the lighting and door frames — add graphic definition without overpowering the space. The kitchen and dining area form the heart of the layout. Designed to serve both everyday function and casual hosting, the peninsula counter creates a natural boundary that invites interaction while maintaining flow. We opted for a matte finish on key surfaces to reduce reflection and add depth. Soft furnishings and rounded furniture pieces in the living area help balance the linear quality of the cabinetry and fittings. The home feels quiet, functional, and grown-up, without losing comfort. This space is proof that minimalism doesn’t need to feel empty. With the right material contrast and rhythm, it becomes expressive and livable.
“We were drawn to darker palettes, but also wanted something that didn’t feel too heavy or overdesigned. The mix of wood and grey throughout the home feels clean and comfortable. It’s modern, but it still feels very warm. The kitchen is one of our favourite areas. It’s compact but very efficient, and we love the flow from there to the dining space. Everything was built with care and attention. The fluted wall detail is subtle but makes a big impact. We’re really happy with the result. It’s exactly the calm and practical space we were looking for.”
