Designer's Notes
A project for
Alicia & Kaiwen
This home was designed to feel open, gentle, and ready for everyday family life. The brief focused on creating zones that allow both interaction and retreat, with plenty of natural light, tactile surfaces, and thoughtful circulation.
We used a foundation of white walls and pale wood to reflect daylight and visually open up the space. Archways were introduced to soften transitions and encourage flow, creating movement from room to room without needing doors. These curves lend the home a friendly, grounded feel that works beautifully for a young family.
The floor tiles in the play area add personality and playfulness while remaining durable and easy to maintain. We placed this space near the living zone so adults can keep an eye on the kids while still enjoying downtime.
Black-framed glass partitions divide functional spaces while keeping sightlines open. The kitchen and dining area benefit from this light-permeable separation, maintaining a cohesive feel across the home.
Every design decision was made with real life in mind. This is a home made to be lived in, moved through, and grown with.
“We love how bright and open the house feels now. The archways and the black-framed glass give the home so much character without making it feel busy. And the kitchen is one of our favourite parts — it’s beautiful and very practical. What we appreciated most was how the team considered how we live as a family. The play area is perfect for our little one, and it blends nicely into the rest of the home. We really feel like this space was built for us.”— Alicia & Kaiwen
