Mid-CenturyModern

Designer's Notes

A project for

This home was about capturing personality within structure. The client wanted a space that felt unique, lived-in, and confident. Something that wasn’t overly styled, yet still visually compelling. We leaned into natural finishes and architectural nostalgia. The use of wood paneling wraps the home in warmth while nodding to classic mid-century interiors. Clean white walls keep the look fresh, allowing key features like the green modular sofa and retro accessories to stand out without clashing. Glass blocks became a central visual device. They allow light to filter between spaces while creating a soft boundary that doesn’t disrupt flow. This material also introduces texture and a vintage-modern feel that ties together the home's character. We kept the lighting straightforward with linear fixtures and warm bulbs, allowing the furniture, form, and finishes to speak for themselves. Functionality was just as important as aesthetics. Behind every clean line is storage, flexibility, or ease of use. There’s a sense of ease in this home. It’s expressive without being loud, clever without being complicated, and above all, personal to the people living in it.
We didn’t want something overly sleek or trendy. Just a space that felt like us. The designers got what we meant and took it further in a really fun way. We love the wood paneling and the use of glass blocks. It brings in light but also gives the home a bit of that retro flavour we like. The green sofa was a bold choice, but now it’s our favourite feature. Every part of the home just works. It’s super functional, and yet it has so much personality. Friends always ask who designed our place. Huge thanks to the team for making the design process so smooth and enjoyable.
